At 10:30 PM, while navigating Canggu on my scooter using my phone for directions, two men on a motorcycle brutally attacked me. They smashed my phone mount with a hammer, snatched my phone, and vanished.  I was devastated – this was only day one of my dream vacation!  Chasing them on my scooter was futile. My Find My iPhone app showed my phone pinging across Bali for a week, a torturous reminder of the theft. The police, unfortunately, were unhelpful, offering only a report for insurance purposes.  Forced to cut my trip short, I replaced my phone with a $130 Samsung, adding insult to injury.  The whole ordeal cost me a new phone, a new flight home, and countless precious memories.  This incident highlights the importance of taking extra precautions when traveling, especially in Southeast Asia.
