Bali Surf Mishap: Overpriced Repair or Shady Deal?

My Bali surf trip took a costly turn.  As a beginner in Medewi, I accidentally damaged another surfer's high-end Hantaro surfboard, breaking a fin and its mount.  The repair cost me 2 million Rupiah (after some negotiation from an initial 2.5 million). While I accept responsibility for the damage, the lengthy delay before the surfer and my instructor returned to discuss the cost, and the high price itself, leaves me wondering if I was overcharged.  Is this a common occurrence in Medewi?  Have other surfers experienced similar situations with inflated repair costs in Bali?  I'm keen to hear from others who've had surfboard repairs in the area to determine if my experience was typical or if I should be concerned about potential price gouging.
