Hey all I got my car and motorbike license today in Bangkok without using an agent or service, did it all myself and can see a lot of misinformation so thought I would share the basic guide as of May 2025. I am on 60 day Visa exempt and you CAN get a residence certificate on these now. Step 1 - Go to immigration division 1 with your passport, TM30, I had a rental contract as well not sure if it's mandatory. You can actually get your TM30 here on your own as well if your landlord is not helpful or slow. You need to request 1 Res Cert for each specific use case - example: 1 for car license, 1 for motorbike license. approx 400 baht total. they will post it to you (make sure to take photo of tracking number). Tip, go in the afternoon after lunch approx 2pm so you avoid lining up all morning. Step 2 - get medical cert from doctor for license, there is a doctor on google maps next to DLT, but it's closed and the motorbike taxis know the drill and take you to nearby doctor, wait for you out front and bring you back to DLT again for 80 baht.. this is the nearby doctor I think it was 150 baht: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/HLFW6XZYyK2Nqycd6](https://maps.app. Step 3 - with your residence certificates, passport, medical cert and any license from home country go to DLT building 4 Chatuchak to get an appointment. You can't do everything same day so don't bother going early and lining up just to get an appointment. Best to go in afternoon there is no queue. (Closed for lunch 12-1pm) Step 4 - I went on the Friday got an appointment on the Monday, my car license from home was able to be transferred straight over for 200 baht. I didn't have a motorbike license so had to do the physicals, theory and practical exams. Tip: download thai driving license app and practice the exam questions they can be quite bizarre and i failed my first 2 attempts. You can only try twice in one day so had to come back another day to try again. They have motorbikes for rent 50 baht for practical. Once exams passed you get your very own motobike license printed! approx Total costs: Res certs: 400 Med cert: 150 Motorbike taxi for med cert: 80 rent motorbike for practical test: 50 Car license: 200 Motorbike License: 100 baht Approx Total: 990 enjoy and drive safe!
