Returning Home After Years Abroad: A Jakarta Expat's Dilemma

Hey everyone, I'm a Jakarta native (still an Indonesian citizen) who's been living abroad since 2012. My journey has taken me through university and work in the US, followed by stints in Singapore, Malaysia, and now Sweden. However, my mother recently suffered a stroke, prompting a strong desire to return to Indonesia and spend quality time with my family. It's been a long time since I've lived in Jakarta, and frankly, the negative news surrounding the city and the government makes me apprehensive. I'm honestly unsure if I'll be happy or even able to adjust to life back home. Financially, I'm in a relatively secure position thanks to family businesses. If anyone has similar experiences, knows someone who does, or simply has advice to share, I'd be incredibly grateful to hear from you! Many expats face similar challenges of reintegrating into their home country after years abroad. The cultural shifts, political climate, and even the everyday logistics can be daunting. It's also worth considering the impact of globalization and how it shapes our relationships with our homelands. Adapting to a changing Jakarta, with its evolving infrastructure and social landscape, is a significant factor I'm grappling with. What are your thoughts on navigating this transition? What resources or support systems helped you?
