Unknown User3 days agoBengaluru's KR Puram, strategically positioned near tech epicenters like Marathahalli, Whitefield, and Hebbal, should theoretically be a prime location for IT firms and their employees. With its own railway station, excellent Old Madras Road access, and good connectivity to various parts of the city, the potential is undeniable. However, the reality paints a starkly different picture. Despite being a stone's throw from major tech hubs – a mere ~5 km from the Outer Ring Road and ~10 km from Whitefield – KR Puram struggles to attract IT companies and doesn't resonate as a desirable residential area for tech professionals. The absence of significant commercial development, including major restaurants, popular fast-food chains, branded cafes, and shopping destinations, further exacerbates this issue. While its railway station sees significant usage for inter-state travel to Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, this hasn't spurred local urban growth. The area holds immense potential to alleviate congestion on the ORR and Marathahalli, serving as an alternative office hub. Its proximity to the city center and good connectivity to Whitefield via Budigere and Katamallur Cross, coupled with Old Madras Road highway access, should have made it an attractive spot for industrial establishments. Yet, this potential remains largely untapped. KR Puram feels like a locality stuck in mediocrity, neither a residential haven nor a bustling commercial zone, much like how Madhya Pradesh is sometimes perceived in the broader Indian context. Why has such a strategically located area failed to evolve into an IT corridor or even capitalize on the growth of its surrounding areas? Are there urban planning insights or historical factors contributing to this stagnation? What's your honest take on this urban enigma?
