Java vs. Sumatra: A Curry Conundrum!

My recent trip to Java was amazing! I explored Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta, experiencing the vibrant culture firsthand.  Last year, I fell in love with Sumatran cuisine, particularly their incredible curries.  So, imagine my surprise when I struggled to find a single Indonesian restaurant in Java serving curry!  Everywhere I went, the menus featured the same fried rice and noodles I'd found in Sumatra.  Seriously, where's the curry?! It's a culinary mystery!  The rich, aromatic flavors of Sumatran curries are unmatched.  Perhaps Java has its own unique culinary focus, but the lack of curry was a real disappointment.
