Sawadee krap/ka friends! 🙏
Living in Thailand for a while now and learned some crazy fun facts about our bar scene that even some locals don't know! Let me share นะครับ:
**1. The "Bell Ringing" Tradition 🔔**
You know that big bell in bars? Mai chai decoration na! When someone rings it, they buy drinks for EVERYONE in the bar. Farang friends always learn this the hard way 555! Pro tip: ถ้าไม่อยากจ่าย don't touch the bell!
**2. Thailand Has 4 Official "Dry Days" 🚫🍺**
Yep! Buddhist holidays (Makha Bucha, Visakha Bucha, Asalha Bucha, and Election Days) = NO alcohol sales. Even 7-Eleven won't sell you beer! Plan ahead or you'll be drinking water like a monk 😅
**3. "Drinking Age" is... Complicated 🤔**
Legal age is 20, but enforcement is... ชิลล์ๆ (chill chill). In tourist areas, nobody really checks. But in Bangkok, big clubs like Beam and Levels? They're strict now in 2026!
**4. Ice in Beer = NOT Weird Here! 🧊**
At first I was like "WTF putting ice in my Chang?!" But actually, it's genius! Thailand is HOT, and ice keeps your beer cold longer. Now I do it too! When in Thailand...
**5. "Lady Drinks" System 💃**
In go-go bars, when you buy a lady drink (usually 150-200 baht), the girl gets a commission AND gets to sit with you. It's not what you think - it's just how they make money! Don't be cheap, but also don't get scammed buying 20 drinks in 10 minutes 555
**BONUS: The 2 AM Closing Law** ⏰
Officially bars close at 2 AM, but... there are "after hours" spots if you know where to look 😉 RCA clubs sometimes stretch it, and some places in Thonglor have "members only" areas that stay open later. Just saying! 🤫
